Workshop Description:
The workshop is intended to impart an understanding and application of the fundamentals needed to portray an exact likeness in portraiture. It includes presentations, discussions, and hands-on and in-depth work in the areas of facial views, features and planes. Also covered is lighting and shading.
Workshop instructor Roberta Nelson explains, There are nine basic facial positions. The shape, placement, and proportion of each facial feature to achieve a true likeness of a person is important. This depends on the facial position plus, establishing the high and low facial planes of the face. Lighting direction creates various effects that will be discussed during the workshop. Shading gives the face shape. We will use weak and strong value contrasts to create the desired result.
Materials Provided by the Participant:
Participants need to bring Drawing tablet or paper larger than 8”x 10”, set of drawing pencils, good eraser, photo of person to be drawn, and if desired, tortilions for shading.
